Allens make big babies

Today was an eventful day for me and little beannette. We had our gestational diabetes test appointment. You have to drink a bottle of orange glucose liquid and then they take your blood an hour later. The liquid medicine is said to be GROSS. I was expecting the worse, so it wasn't that bad.

The sugary medicine made me sick. Luckily, it was just nausea and hot flashes, and it's over now. If we failed the test, we'll get a call in the AM. If we passed the test, they won't call. I'm a tad worried b/c gestational diabetes causes big babies, and...

At the check-up portion of today's appointment we got some news. Little beannette should no longer be called "little". Today is the first day of week 28 and when they measured baby/belly, I'm measuring at 32 weeks. My first question was whether this meant the due date was off. She said definitely not, just means she's a big baby. Here are our family's baby weight stats:

I was 6 lbs 9 oz.
My sister Tiffany was 5 lbs 10 oz.
Scott was 8 lbs. 7 oz.
Tripper was 9 lbs. 1 oz.

Who do you think caused this one? The doctor did say i should get more of a push present if the baby remains to be so big. I TOTALLY AGREE (hint, hint honey).

We got back in 2 weeks and if the baby continues to be so much larger than "normal" they'll do an ultrasound to check things out. I've had 2 close friends delivery 4 or 5 weeks early, so we have been planning to have everything ready for baby by mid-July. We'll see how she's doing in 2 weeks.

That's the main baby update. Welcome to the 3rd trimeter Beanette (w/o the little)!

My wedding rings won't fit anymore. Do you like my new rings? I didn't like walking around without any wedding rings on while pregnant. No, they are not real, but they'll do the trick until my finger swelling stops.

NYC and the Upfronts

New York was fun last week, but left me SO TIRED! The broadcast networks all release their new TV show line-up and introduce us advertisers/media folks to the new shows so we know whether to purchase them or not. I flew out Sunday. Good weather when I got there, so I went for a walk by the hotel. We stay by my old work building, so I know the area and love to see the old hangouts when I'm there (I worked in NYC for 2 years out of college at an ad agency).

Monday started with the NBC presentation. Boring presentation and a few new shows that look good. The Event has the most potential in my opinion. It's 24 meets Lost. In scott's wheelhouse is "Outsourced", a comedy about a call-center in India. Only, I don't know how long the jokes can last. Love Bites also has potential. Jimmy Fallon was the only TV star at their presentation, but on the walk out Jerry Seinfeld walked right past us.

Monday night was FOX. Their presentation was much more lively and they brought all their TV show stars out. My favorite- GLEE! They did a performance at the end and here's a REALLY quick, not great quality video from my boss's i-phone.

Tuesday afternoon was ABC at Lincoln Center. There is a REALLY funny comedy coming called Better Together. Two major highlights from that presentation: 1) a member of my "top 5 list" sat in my row...10 seats away...Matthew Perry! 2) the Modern Family cast's appearance. Gosh I love that show. Here's a pic of them:

Here is the NBC and ABC fall schedule starting this fall:

Turner was Wed. (TBS/TNT) and there were a few good sightings. The "Old Spice Guy" is in a new show so I tried to snap a pic for scott (bad quality). He LOVES those commercials.

I give the overall upfronts a 6 out of 10. Not too many new shows I'll plan on DVR'ing (that's a good thing with Baby Beannette on the way).

I needed a weekend of recovery and that just didn't happen. Too much to do! At least it was a fun week in NYC. Well, besides the weather. Tuesday it was a high of 61 and HUGE thunderstorms. Still fun, I love NYC. Oh, and one last celeb sighting on our plane home. Phil Fulmer (ex- tennessee coach) in the flesh, 2 rows in front of me. At first I thought he was an older TV actor, but couldn't place him...then I saw the ring. The giant pumpkin has lost weight.

Have a great week.

We're Baaaack

Okay so I get the blogging slacker award. I apologize. Between work, graduation, traveling and planning graduation parties, the time has flown by these last few weeks. I'll try blogging in the present and covering the past events I've neglected when I can.

This past weekend we had a good one. Thursday we hit paydirt at a friends "pre" garage sale. Friday night we had a cookout over at Tripper and Hollys, Saturday we got a bed and mattress delivered and watched the Premier League championship before a yummy dinner at Taqueria with Brandon and Kelly (shout out...what what!!). Sunday was a day filled with shopping till we dropped. Literally. IKEA, Sears for appliances, among other places. Luckily the dropping was falling into a fantastic rocker/recliner/glider at Babies R Us. I think that's going to be our splurge, it's 20% off right now which makes it a little more do-able. Sunday night was topped with a Prather family dinner at an old favorite...El Porton. It was great to see Tiff, Jonathan, Coleman and Maggie too. The day was topped off with the Lost finale which was good, just got over too late. 11:30 is way past my bedtime these days.

Between the garage sale and my sister, I think we have almost everything we need for the baby. All the essentials at least. That is a huge relief and THANK YOU SO MUCH TIFF, MOM & DAD and THE ALLENS (thanks for the crib). Now we just have the dining room and playroom FILLED with clothes and toys. Time to figure out storage solutions.

Little beannette has been VERY active. I wonder what she's doing in there sometimes. She is the most active at night, 7pm to waking up. Between the potty breaks, little beannette waking me up and the acid reflux, sleeping has been rough. We are in week 27, the last week of the 2nd trimester *gasp*. Time to get "things" ready for her arrival. Boy how time flies!

Week 26 and NYC

Welcome to week 26 little beannette. You've been very active in the belly when you are awake. From week 25-28 you are the size of an eggplant or a 13 inch boot.

This weekend we are throwing a graduation party for daddy. It should be fun and many of his friends and family will be there to help celebrate.

Next week you are taking your second work trip with me. You will have been to the two largest cities in the US by the time you are born. First was LA and next week is NYC. It's the Upfront for work, so many celebrity sightings will be had. The networks release their new schedules and preview their new shows for the fall.

I'll post from traveling if there is time.

SO PROUD!

Scott graduated on Monday from Emory with his MBA. It was 16 LONG and difficult months, but in the end it was well worth it. He did the executive program, so he worked during the week then had school every other Friday and Saturday. Every third school weekend he was there Thurs-Sat. It was an expensive program, but well worth the extra money for the caliber of professors and classmates. they say you can't buy friends, but in a weird way...we did. Scott (and I) made life long friends and school definitely has had it's impact on scott.

I'll post more on the graduation itself later, but it was great. Arnold Schwarzenegger was the keynote speaker and he was funny, inspirational and entertaining.

Scott I am so proud of you and all that you accomplished. I am even more impressed that you got such good grades and pushed yourself to the limit. Like they told you at the beginnign of the program, you'll get out what you put in. You are a prime example of that since you devoted yourself to your studies and exceled in areas that were new to you... MIS, Finance...who would have thought? SO PROUD OF YOU! (I'm tearing up again with pride. That would be the 15th time in 3 days). congrats on such a great accomplishment in your life. Me and little beannette appreciate all your efforts! When they announced your name, your daughter was cheering too =) We love you!

Here's is one picture from the graduation day. We're celebrating with a small party with friends and family this coming weekend.

Baby Bump, week 24

I took this last friday to replace the awful pic that was posted. Here's another week 24 pic. She's getting big, isn't she!

Vern Yip and Decorating Advice

Still slammed at work (what's new). I did want to post a quick note about a cool experience. Today I had a work event/luncheon presentation for Scipps networks (Food, HGTV, Travel, Great American country). Some of the network stars were there- Sam Brown, The Neeleys and Vern Yip. Lauren and I got to chat with Vern for a while. On the way to the hotel I was joking that I should ask Vern about decorating advice for the nursery. Well, I told him that we were joking about it and said, well if you have the fabric...let's see it. He gave me good advice and suggested colors to "play up" from the fun fabric I'm in love with. A picture of the fabric swatch is below.

He loved the fabric and said I need to keep it to this fabric and one other pattern in the room. He suggested the blue and the yellow to use as other colors in the room (but I've already got too much blue in the house, so I'll stay away from that). He said the light green will always be classic, so I'll probably go with that. Practical and classic pretty much sum up my designer tastes. I've got some ideas already!! My mom is a modern day Martha Stewart so she is making the window coverings, crib skirt, and bumper. I'm excited to get started...just a few graduation events then we'll switch to baby/nursery mode.

I found this fabric 2 or 3 years ago and fell in love with it. I told my mom back then if I ever have a little girl, I would have to use this in the nursery. Yeah for having a girl!

Love in the form of a big red hat

You know what I LOVE? 7am work meetings. Can you sense the sarcasm? I offically had my earliest work meeting ever this morning. I've had plenty of early mornings for board meetings, seminars, etc but this was a first. 3 people. 7am. Mandatory. I guess it could be worse, it could be Monday.

Hopefully this means I can enjoy Cinco de Mayo a little early (happy b-day Kristin).

All is well with Little Beannette these days. She's still moving like crazy.

At it Again

Work is crazy again. I'll write more when I can. On a brighter note, Scott has recovered and is no longer sick.

Great B-Day Weekend!

I had a great weekend even though my beloved hubby was seriously ill with a cold. Saturday was my birthday and we started with a yummy breakfast at J. Christophers (I was craving french toast). Then we headed to The Dump and bought a king mattress which was my b-day gift (I'm a practical girl...the best gifts are the ones I'll use most often). We got a GREAT deal...or we think. Supposedly we paid 23% of the retail price on a really high end brand called Aireloom mattress. They are hand made and cost a pretty penny. We wanted a high end mattress since we spend 1/2 of our life on the darn thing. We ended up with a great one for a very decent price. Anyone heard of Aireloom or have one?

I headed to tennis to play my playoff match next. My partner and I won, but our team lost. It was still fun to be in playoffs. After a shower and a visit from my parents (thanks for the visit and the card/gift!!!), we headed to a low-key dinner that we could go casual to. Scott had already been through 2 boxes of tissues so he was a trouper to even go out to dinner. It was very yummy. We rented Couples Retreat (need to find a way to the St. Regis/Bora-Bora!) and got some good z's.

Sunday I shopped and ran errands, the cooked my sick hubby some veggie soup for dinner.

Think babies in the belly can hear thunderstorms? Atlanta had some crazy storms last night and Little Beannette woke me up a few times. I know babies in the belly hear "vaccum" type noises everyday, but I'm guessing they would hear a really loud thunder blast. Hope she wasn't scared! The storms kept me up a lot last night...boy am I tired!

Happy Monday.
